Learning in Freedom

Welcome to Learning in Freedom, a blog all about the learning adventures (and mishaps) of the Allen family. My four children are unschooled, following their interests and passions every day and living the lives of their choosing. The purpose of this blog is to share our every day lives (and my not-so-humble opinons) with anyone interested in stopping by. We hope this will give a glimpse of how natural learning unfolds from day to day......

The Simian Line

I'm not big into palmistry or other new age trends, but I've always wondered if there was something to it. Long ago, my art teacher Mrs. Stratton read our palms. She was a big believer and told us some very interesting things about ourselves. When she saw my hands for the first time, it was pointed out that I had a very rare line called the "Simian Line" which was an indicator of total idiocy or total genius. That's all she really told me at that time. I've stuck with the "total genius" idea since then.:)

I decided to do some research on it after some of us discussed the palm thing in Dallas last week. What I didn't realize is that the Simian Line is actually a fusing of the head and heart lines. They run as a solid line across both of my palms. I've never met anyone else with this feature. We are a small percentage of the population. It tends to show up in people with Down Syndrome more often.

I got a laugh out of some of the writings about people with Simian Lines. Some of it was spot on. Intense, passionate etc... Yeah, I can buy that. Apparently they also tend to have difficulties getting along with people. Nope. I only have a hard time with stupid people. :)

There was more information about people with Simian Lines that are below average intelligence. The last time I took an IQ test it was 140, so I think I'll stick with the "genius" thing (not that an IQ test means squat about anything really). Apparently Tony Blair has the Simian Line on both hands also. Oh joy.

I'd like to find more positive information about this feature. I also wish I shared the feature of being able to focus intensely with my fellow Simian's. I obsess about something for a while, then I'm onto the next thing, eventually getting back to each obsession in time. I like it that way, but there are times I wish I could stay focused better. Skipping around can be exhausting.

Anyone else out there with a Simian Line? It would be interesting to compare notes.

I have a simian line as well. Actually, two of them! I found your site when doing a search on the subject. I was struck by the warmth and creativity reflected in your photos of your home. So wonderful to allow children to grow in such an imaginative environment! I also have to ask...is your town the same jonesborough where the storytelling festival takes place? I grew up near Kingsport, TN. (I now live in colorado). Im a very mellow person...didnt find the simian line to describe me very clearly...what is your take on it? Id love to hear from you. My email address is Stacierew@aol.com.

I, too, have a simian line on both hands and thought nothing of it for most of my life. I started somewhat of a journey to understand my life about a year ago, and thought one sleepless nights (I have lots of those) to research the lines on my hands because I always thought them odd, if not trivial. And my research has definitely brought me closer to understanding the remarkable roller coaster of a life I've had so far. Well, like many of the people I've found online, I seem to possess a paradoxical intelligence that on one side has me scoring over a 150 on an IQ test that an impromptu psychiatrist decides to administer on me because he's "incredibly fascinated" by my responses to his questions; and on the other side sees me getting arrested three times in what seems to be, in hindsight, inexplicable moments of very bad judgment. Mind you, I was incredibly hung over during this IQ test, and my actions that caused me to be arrested were making perfect sense to me at the time I did them. Repeatedly marked as a "prodigy" by teachers in school, I never quite understood why. I continually felt that if I somehow asked what exactly it was that I was a prodigy of, "they" might realize they were in fact mistaken. So in short, (well, long, I guess, lol) I'm slowly learning to accept that my life was never meant to be "normal," and that these hands can do far more than I ever really gave myself credit for.

I never got back to this...
I think the labels given like "prodigy" or "gifted" can be just as harmful as "LD" or any other label. Human beings need to be free to explore without all that baggage eh?

An update:
I discovered my youngest (very intense) child has a Simian line! Never even noticed. Just one, but how cool is that? Having never met anyone with a Simian line, it's kinda neat seeing it in my own house.

I'm a complete liner with my left one. I've been physically and mentally healthy my whole life. I'm intense, trying my best to make it right. Things are right when no one has to suffer. I'm understanding because I see or feel so much and for some reason I can relate. I can tell if someone hides grief, anger, or indifference or what ever, when looking all fine and pretending. I'm good socially but I very many times hate it. Can see the eye behind the lie so to say. I also see reasons behind bad behavior that I hate and even then can understand. That's sometimes the most tiring part of it all. I have dreams that come true in every day bases. Restless nights. When I'm down I'm truly low and when I'm happy I'm filled with joy almost like fueling up and when I'm happy I for some odd reason wish to share it with the unhappy. I feel a strong connection to God, The Creator who made it possible for me to sit here and write this, but I'm no one to say who She/He is. It's not important to me. Actually I feel that none of us knows. I'm very creative person in two artistically known matters. In a sad way ;) I feel very happy and positive because I know this is a blessing.

Hi, I'm Reggie Laxamana.
I just decided to look into this topic randomly. I’ve heard a long time ago that this means bad luck in Asian cultures. I've looked into what this means but I can only relate to it a little. I Have the Simian Line in both hands. I'm a very emotional person. I'm not that smart but I can be if I choose to. I guess I’m very stubborn.. I care about certain people more than I do myself. I'm a VERY Selfless person. I think about everything too much. I like to believe love is real. I love music and the arts with a passion. I can’t sleep at night.
Yes I am Asian (Filipino), I've heard this occurs with people with down syndrome also. I Have ADHD.
Overall if I had to say something about my personality, I'd say I think too much.

Am i the only one?

Simial line on left hand.
IQ above 130.
I love music, the only time i realax 100% is when i play.
I have loads of friends.
Cant sleep, seam to think to much about evrything.
Cant find a purpuse in life. Evrything is too easy.
(acting, manipulating and mindfucking other people)
Master of strategy. Optimise logistiks.
I watch out and care much for my nearest.

Why cant i just be normal?
I need to be challenged in life.

When i get boared i change from beeing this optimistic and caring role model, to a manipulativ (sometimes evil) just to get some action. At All time i am in 100% control, and evrything seams to go my way. But im just so unchallenged. The worst is that i reely dont care any more.

What kind of job should i change to?
What kind of hobbies?
Am i mental?
Should i start smoking pot like the ADHD people, just to find peace?

I have a Simian line on my right hand. Someone told me once that people who have this line tend to "hit very hard" when they decide to hurt people. We are extremists of emotion in both rage and love. We tend to be extremely creative and want to make things. We tend to be restless in mind and formal education isn't always the best for us. We are fighters and survivors. That's why, even without formal education, many people with this line do very well.

I've read it being referred to as the Buddha Line. It was prophesied after the birth of Siddhartha that he would either grow up to be a great warlord or a highly spiritual man. This echoes what I wrote before about the duality in personality.

There have been moments in my life where completely black rage engulfed me and then there were times where I felt complete spiritual and emotional bliss. Unfortunately, the latter moments have been fairly rare.
This fits my personality and situation to a tee. I find I can keep the rage under control by a healthy diet and meditation.

I too have a high IQ at 147 and like you, I despise slackers and idiots even though I know I'm wrong to do so.

I have a double "simian line"..Those who only list or mention the negative aspects of having one, I sense are simply jealous. Bitter grapes. Especially if they're aware of the positive aspects of having the line and it's glorious historical significance in many cultures.

Being that many of those writing about it don't have it and believe that palm prints actually mean something, a line across the palm is easy to identify and the most obvious gift mark anyone could have on their hand.

It's right there, in your face, easy to see, not much interpretation is required, very objective..A line across the palm. If only a few people have it and this mark denotes something special and powerful, then only a few people have been graced ( or cursed, depending on how you look at it..) with this gift. With these powers. That makes certain people who don't have the line, bitter and resentful. Perhaps even scared.

That's why you see so many articles focused on the negatives and either don't mention the positive or only give a cursory, footnote mention of the positive aspects of the line.

Everything negative said about the line is true, we deal in extremes. We are intense and very focused individuals. We can be extremely destructive but we can also be extremely constructive. Due to our intense, explosive nature, we can often start the race late and make it to the finish line first. At least that has been my experience.

When we choose to dedicate ourselves to something we usually do it better than everybody else and when we fail to dedicate ourselves to something, we destroy ourselves ( and others..). Homeless, prison, the old lady with 30 cats living in a rat, roach infested apartment with mountains of garbage..etc

Incredibly successful or incredibly unsuccessful. Highly constructive, highly destructive.

It is the mark of kings and queens, emperors, generals. The mark of the gods. If anyone tries to demean you for having the line, just smile.

I believe we should form a society, a club and see what we can create together.

I happen to have this line on both palms. I just found out about this, and I'm completely freaking out about it right now wondering what horrible problems this could indicate. I was a "gifted" student in primary and secondary school, and my IQ was tested at 164. I ended up attending an Ivy League university, and my GRE scores were 2180/2400. I went to grad school in the humanities, but dropped out and left with an MA. I've managed to rub a lot of people the wrong way, and I've been arrested several times for misdemeanors, never felonies. I've had substance abuse problems too. I have no idea if there's any connection.

I have simian line on both hands. A downward branch from the head line that indicates my actions follows logic and reasoning, rather than emotions. I've always always felt different and misfit to different groups of friends, and now I feel even more separated than ever. Most of the forums and websites I've visited concluded a very harsh upbringing when an individual has simian lines on their hands, which I found to be very true and accurate relating to my early life. I am Chinese American, first generation - Served in the United States Marines, and acquired my Electrical Engineering degree after my service. I am currently in a tough life/career choices and realizing about the society that we live in. This world is filled with pain and suffering with actions done by selfish characteristics of certain people with power. It is unfortunate that I have awakened and searched for the ugly truth of humanity and the desire to do something about it. I am a very intense individual with a strong ability and determination to do whats right and to do more than average. I am currently awaiting for federal service in the state department as an engineering foreign diplomatic security service, and I know in my heart that this is what GOD wants me to do and I am always his devoted servant. I am glad read everyone's comments and share a part of your own unique experience and insight into this rare beautiful anomaly and hope that everyone's path will be great, because possessing Simian Crease hand shows greatness in mind! Know yourself and hone your ability to do good in life, we have the gift that can make a different in others and in this world.

Best of Luck Simian brother's and Sister's

Hello, nice to know all of simian line friends out there.

I have simian line on my both palms and I am an Asian girl.

First, I realized I am quite weird from other that have common line on their palms. So are we all weird? haha...

As some research said that Simian line holder are not common and really rare if they have on both of their palms. They will be intelligent and intensity.

Some of my relatives and friends said I am smart. but why I've never seen myself that smart or intelligent yet, and it is also difficulty for me to feel close to anybody, even my parents...

Also, I've never seen people with this line are wealthy or completely successful people. And they are struggling very hard for living with their while they are the simian line holder...

here is a link that I think I should share with all of you guys
