Learning in Freedom
Welcome to Learning in Freedom, a blog all about the learning adventures (and mishaps) of the Allen family. My four children are unschooled, following their interests and passions every day and living the lives of their choosing. The purpose of this blog is to share our every day lives (and my not-so-humble opinons) with anyone interested in stopping by. We hope this will give a glimpse of how natural learning unfolds from day to day......

Post-party happiness
We had so much fun...Kelli and Alice's crew all came into town along with our local families to celebrate her special day. On Monday, the "Chocolates" (better known as the Traaseths) and Bowmans came over to our house to extend the fun. It was a gorgeous day so we just swirled in and out of the house, talking and eating and jumping and swinging....
Silas ran some static electricity experiments.
La and I getting in the required photos-we-take-of-ourselves.
Samuel, Kyra and Karina enjoy the swing up by the woods.
Everyone soaks up that lovely sunshine....
Sierra had been feeling cruddy since Sunday and missed a lot of the activities, but she wanted to see everyone so she laid on the couch and absorbed all the goings-on.
Our next-door neighbor friend Payton, brought over her teacup chihuahua puppies to show everyone.
Dang they're the cutest things ever!
Then it was time for goodbyes....the "Chocolates" headed back to Georgia and La's family went home for some much needed rest. By the time everyone left I could feel a heaviness in my chest (no, not that sad kind...the flu kind) and knew I was coming down with something nasty.
By late Monday night I was sick...still fighting it today and boy does it suck! I don't DO sick, don't these germs know? Apparently they didn't get the memo. My friends Echinacea, Goldenseal and Garlic are trying to get the message through.:)

Teen rebellion? What IS that?
Join me on Wednesday, March 25th from 1pm-3pm EST to talk about older children and teens and the transitions we experience as unschooling parents. The more people, the merrier! Let's talk about what unschooling looks like as children transition to adult life and issues that might arise (like how to cope with your child bending down to hug you...what is THAT all about?).
I hope you can join me for a lively and interesting discussion! Details here (including the password for the chat room) at Sandra's page.
Feel free to share this with lists you may be on...or your local friends...or your dog for that matter.
P.S. For anyone stopping by that might not know us, I am currently the unschooling parent of a 19y.o. who is living away from home, a 15 y.o., almost 12 y.o. and an 8y.o. and believe that "teen rebellion" is a bunch of baloney....haven't experienced it thus far.

Thank you for being a friend.....
If you want the best effect, scroll to the bottom and start the video and then look at the photos while listening to the song.:) Then just pretend it's a cool slide show thingy like La would have made.
Thank you to every person that is in these photos and many who are not, for being there during the good times and the not-so-good time, for loving me even when I'm not acting very loveable, for seeing through me and into me, for backing me up and helping me back down. You all mean the world to me....
COMPANY OF FRIENDS
When I die, let them judge me by my company of friends
Let them know me as the footprints that I left upon the sand
Let them laugh for all the laughter
Let them cry for laughter’s end
But when I die, let them judge me by my company of friends
When I die, let them toast to all the things that I believe
Let them raise a glass to consciousness
And not spill a drop for grief
Let the bubbles rise at midnight
Let their tongues get light as thieves
And when I die, let them toast to all the things that I believe
I believe in restless hunger
I believe in red balloons
I believe in private thunder
In the end I do believeI believe in inspiration
I believe in lightning bugs
I believe in slow creation
In the end I do believeI believe in ink on paper
I believe in lips on ears
I believe what's shared is savored
In the end I do believeI believe in work on Sundays
I believe in raising barns
I believe in wasting Mondays
In the end I do believeI believe in intuition
I believe in being wrong
I believe in contradiction
In the end I do believeI believe in living smitten
I believe all hearts will mend
I believe our book is written
By our company of friends
