Learning in Freedom

Welcome to Learning in Freedom, a blog all about the learning adventures (and mishaps) of the Allen family. My four children are unschooled, following their interests and passions every day and living the lives of their choosing. The purpose of this blog is to share our every day lives (and my not-so-humble opinons) with anyone interested in stopping by. We hope this will give a glimpse of how natural learning unfolds from day to day......

General synopsis...again

I just can't seem to find the time to blog anymore....maybe that's a good thing.:)

I've been doing a LOT of this:

and a little bit of this:

and some of this:

We had a lovely time at the ARGH gathering up at Roan Mountain in November (above pic), enjoyed an amazing holiday season with lots of friends and games and food and get togethers...even some unexpected D.R.A.M.A. Such is life eh?

Most recently though, we enjoyed a few days of snow! It coincided with a visit from one of the "Chocolates"...Kyra decided to move in for a while, when they came up here to retrieve Abbi from two weeks of adventuring. Some of our local crew were heading down to celebrate Cameron Lovejoy's birthday in Columbia, so we knew Kyra could get back to her family relatively soon.

I didn't really have her the entire week, she and the other girls ended up rotating between Austin's and Laura's houses as well as ours. They had a ball, but methinks they're a bit tired now.

The snow pics are missing Laura's crew as they had a birthday in Knoxville the day we had our snow fun. We played outside a LOT that day, even headed into downtown Jonesborough for more fun and goofing. In no particular order.....the snow day:

Angels or....???

The snowballs just kept growing and growing....

Suma (our Christmas kitty), gets to check out his first snow. He was hilarious, pouncing on it and acting completely ridiculous...as a cat should.

Ooops......did someone shake that snow-laden branch on purpose???

C'mon Austin....we're ready for ya!

We stopped to check out the brick my Mom donated at the Storytelling Center....
Hi Mum.

No visit to Jonesborough is complete without a stop at the pet store. They had a blast with the hognose snake and discussed the virtues (or rather the lack thereof) of hamsters.

We're heading over to Laura's to have a potluck with the Aycock family, in from Alabama. Without the digital camera I doubt there will be much posting going on. Hope everyone is staying warm this winter and dreaming of spring gardens! I know I am.

Thank you for sharing all of those pictures! It makes me feel just a little, tiny bit closer:) I don't know what it is about Jalen that I connect with but I just want to reach in and give him kisses! I LOVE his hair long, it just fits him. Oh, and Martin and Kev say that I do resemble your friend, Aleah?
