Learning in Freedom
Welcome to Learning in Freedom, a blog all about the learning adventures (and mishaps) of the Allen family. My four children are unschooled, following their interests and passions every day and living the lives of their choosing. The purpose of this blog is to share our every day lives (and my not-so-humble opinons) with anyone interested in stopping by. We hope this will give a glimpse of how natural learning unfolds from day to day......

Happy Birthday Emilee!
This is my sister's singing dog. Apparently he started singing along with them and they figured it was a fluke. So they did it repeatedly, while videotaping to see if he'd try again and he sang right on cue everytime they started.
His sister was trying to distract him in this one and it looks like he's nudging her away so he can keep singing.
Such talent in the Snavley household!:)

Cat
We have a new friend. She followed Markus into the house today, while he was unloading his car after returning from Columbia SC. After checking with the neighbors and finding out she is an Abyssinian and that she was headed for the pound this week, we picked up kitty litter, food and toys for her....oh, and a bed. Yeah, I'm a sucker for pretty cats. Markus has gone along with it all thus far, probably because she looked at him with those huge green eyes and followed him home.
The kids are in love of course. She's a bit of a spaz though (Jalen says "don't call her that, it's not a nice name) but we're hoping she'll mellow out with age and proper care. Those big eyes and ears make her face look so delicate. We're keeping the name she was previously given as it seems to fit; Bella. Short for Belladonna methinks.;)

Free inspiration!
The latest edition of Unschooling Voices just posted. The topic this month was all about fun or interesting learning adventures different families have had this year. It's sure to stir up some new ideas!
Also, the latest edition of Connections Ezine of unschooling and mindful parenting is now available. If you don't have much time online, but crave unschooling related inspiration then you really need to buy a subscription. It has many resources and essays all in one place and you get a new dose of inpsiration each month. What a great gift to give yourself or a friend. This month has my "Mindfulness Matters" article along with an assortment of beautiful writings by Anne Ohman, Rue Kream, Sandra Dodd, Danielle Conger, Ben Lovejoy and Deb Lewis. There is also a writeup about Not Back to School Camp from two different teen's perspectives.
Enjoy!
Inspiration for myself at this moment, involves getting of the computer and cleaning house. Markus is off at the Lovejoy's building their new deck and somehow everything seems to explode (mess-wise) when he'd gone. We're missing him already (he just left yesterday) and I don't know if it's because of all the talk about death and grieving lately or just a holiday thing but I don't like him being gone this time around.
Hope you're all finding much holiday warmth and cheer with a few handmade gifts thrown in for good measure.:)
